Tatev Monastery 3d model was published on vizerra.com

A legend says that after the architect completed building Tatev, he
took two stone chips and prayed God to have wings. His wish was granted
and he flew away. The word “tatev” means “giving wings” in Armenian.

The monastery of Tatev, 316 kilometers away from Yerevan, was built in
the 9th century, on the ruins of an ancient pagan temple. It was
natural in those times; Armenia was the first country in the world to
adopt Christianity as a state religion and should fight with the
paganism.

The most famous construction of Tatev is Gavazan, an 8 meter pending
stone pillar. This unique work of Armenian art and engineering was
meant to scare off the invaders, and always did it successfully. In
1931 an earthquake almost destroyed the monastery, but a lot of
buildings, including the main church of Pogos and Petros, were
reconstructed.
